The Oscars are the biggest awards ceremony celebrating the film industry and always the last in a long line of them. I’ve looked forward to Oscar night since I can remember. Although to me it’s not necessarily the barometer it used to be to let me know which were the best movies to see because so many great ones are left out. None the less I still look forward to seeing the celebrities dressed to the nine’s, the performances, and the closest thing to gambling I like to do by making a list of who I think will win and seeing how close I get to a perfect guess. Always entertaining none the less.
This year I guessed a lot correctly but to my disappointment Michelle Williams didn’t win again. There was so much great competition this past year that I knew it was going to be an extremely close race. Octavia Spencer was wonderful in The Help and deservedly won for Best Supporting Actress and a very deserving Christopher Plummer for Best Supporting Actor. Not surprisingly The Artist took a few of the major awards with Best Actor, Best Director and Best Picture. 18 time nominee and now 3 time winner Meryl Streep took Best Actress which is stiff competition for anyone nominated in the same category.
Cirque Du Soleil did a fantastic performance during the show and Billy Crystal was his normal fantastic self as host. The ever changing format of the ceremony is somewhat off putting though. I do wish they would do more dance and song performances like in past years. But all in all it’s always a good show. Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners.
